Description
Intended Use
Shrimp Allergy Test is a rapid test for the qualitative determination of Shrimp specific Immunoglobulin E (sIgE) in human serum, plasma or whole blood.
Shrimp Allergy Test, in conjunction with other clinical observations, is intended to identify the patient whose allergic symptoms maybe mediated by Shrimp -specific immunoglobulin E (IgE) Type I hypersensitivity.
Introduction
The allergens causing type I hypersensitivity reactions are mostly proteins derived from the natural environment e.g. plant pollen, animal hair, food, mites, and insect venoms.A characteristic of type I allergies is the involvement of allergen specific immunoglobulins(antibodies) of class E (sIgE). Hence, the detection of sIgE is an important tool of modern allergy diagnostics.
Shrimp is a kind of arthropod in the water. It is a popular food to people in the world because of it’s delicious taste and rich nutrition. But Shrimp is frequently identified as a cause of IgE mediated adverse reactions in food allergic individuals. According to different studies the prevalence of shrimp allergy can be estimated to be about 0.6 to 2.8% in food allergic individuals. Ingestion and occasionally inhalation of shrimp allergens can induce allergic reactions such as pruritus, urticaria, angio-edema, gastrointestinal symptoms, asthma, and life-threatening anaphylaxis.
